There are great expectations regarding tourism development of the interior of the Yucatan Peninsula thanks to the Maya Train, a long-awaited infrastructure. In fact, several hotel projects are already ongoing, indicating a movement that has only just begun. Below are some details on the current situation. 

Up to 30 million tourists arrive in Cancun by air every year. Of these, at least 10% are expected to use the Maya Train, still under construction, and go on to discover the hidden treasures in the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. This project targets a  different, top grade, type of tourism; travelers from Europe and North America, looking for new landscapes and experiences. And, for these new visitors, a new hotel industry is being promoted in this extensive region.
